I find it impossible to look at any of the photos of my mom with the cougars without smiling. All of the photos show that despite the hardships they endured they all loved one another so much.
This photo is from the 1930s. My mom said that Leo is actually leaning against her leg and body as hard as he can, not so much the chain, and that he would have been purring loudly and that it would have been resonating through her.
So interesting…you wouldn’t see this nowadays!

You didn’t see it then – they were the first cougars ever in captivity. Was a big deal. People told them they were crazy as the cougar is a BEAST – they knew better. Wild yes, vicious, no.
